Filter live data in the Viewer
The Viewer's Filters pill lets anyone pick a saved filter per data link and fill in runtime values, then Apply. It appears once a link has saved filters.
What the Filters pill is
Whoever sets up a data link can save named filters on it, such as "Available rooms" or "Low battery". In the Viewer, the Filters pill is where anyone looking at the map picks one of those filters for each layer. There's no way to build a new condition in the Viewer. That keeps a filter meaning the same thing for everyone, including share-link guests.
When the pill appears
The pill sits in the top-right stack, under Layers. It only appears when at least one visible data link has a saved filter. A facility whose data links have none, which is the case for the Retail Mart Store and Acme Warehouse demos, simply has no Filters pill.
- 1Open the data link
In the editor, open Data → Manage data links and edit the layer, for example Room status. See Data links.
- 2Add a saved filter
In the Saved filters section, click Add saved filter, give it a Filter name, add at least one condition and click Save filter. See Saved filters.
- 3Open the Viewer
Click Preview. The Filters pill is now in the top-right stack.
- When a layer is filtered, the funnel turns to your accent colour and the pill shows a count, e.g. Filters (1).
- Layers you hid with their eye in the Layers panel drop out of the dialog.
- A share link can hide the pill: turn off Data link filter on its Viewer chrome tab.
The Report filters dialog
Click the pill to open Report filters. When something is filtered, the title also shows "· N active". There is one row per data link that has saved filters:
- A colour dot and the layer name.
- A dropdown that starts with All records, followed by every saved filter by name. Hover it to see the filter's description, if it has one.
- An X ("Clear this layer"). It appears once a filter is picked and puts that row back to All records.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Apply | Applies every pick in the dialog at once and closes it. Greyed out until you change something. |
| Cancel | Closes the dialog. Nothing you changed in it is applied. |
| Clear all | Sets every row back to All records. You still need Apply. |
Filters that ask for a value
A saved filter can leave a value blank for the viewer to fill in, such as the N in "last N days". When you pick one, small inputs appear under its row, each showing the field and operator next to an input:
| Condition | Input |
|---|---|
| between | Two boxes, min and max (numbers, dates or text) |
| in / not in | One box for a comma-separated list, e.g. "a, b, c" |
| last N days / next N days | A number of days |
| before / after, or equals on a date | A date-and-time picker |
| equals / not equals on a yes/no field | A true / false choice |
| Anything else | A number or text box |
Default filters and the Layers panel chip
- A saved filter marked "Apply this filter by default when the layer loads" is applied when the Viewer opens, share links included. Picking All records overrides it for your visit.
- The applied filter's name shows as a small chip on the layer's row in the Layers panel. The chip is read-only. Change the filter here.
- The Share dialog has no setting to choose a filter for a link's guests. They get each layer's default filter and can pick another one unless the pill is hidden.
