Draw aisles and 3D walls with the Aisle tool

Draw aisles, lane markings and 3D walls click by click with the Aisle tool (L). Set wall height and thickness, dash style, labels and snap hints.

When to use the Aisle tool

An aisle is a chain of connected line segments — a polyline. It draws flat by default (a marked lane on the floor plan) and becomes a 3D wall the moment you set a wall height. Reach for it whenever the thing you're drawing is a run rather than a filled shape: an aisle, a wall, a barrier, a conveyor, a fence, a lane marker.

To open the tool: click the Draw button on the left toolbar and pick Add aisle, or press L on the keyboard. 7 also opens it. Saved aisles and walls are listed under Aisles & walls in the side panel; the toolbar's Layers menu calls the same layer Aisles / lines.

L 7Open the Aisle tool (Add aisle).

Drawing an aisle

Same click-by-click flow as an area, but you only need two points to save. Every click drops a vertex; the map draws the segment from the last vertex to your cursor as you move; double-click or Enter commits.

  1. 1
    Click the first vertex

A dot lands at the click. The side panel's Placement section shows the drawing hints and a running point count.

  2. 2
    Keep clicking

Each click adds a corner. A live segment trails from the last vertex to the cursor so you can see where the next segment will go.

  3. 3
    Commit

Double-click the map or press Enter to save. You need at least 2 points; the aisle saves with a default name of "Aisle" (listed as "Wall" once it has a height or elevation) and is auto-selected, so the side panel switches to that aisle's settings. The tool stays active so you can draw another right away; press Esc with no points placed, or pick Pan, to leave it. (The "Stop drawing" button sits in the Placement section, which only shows while nothing is selected.)

ClickAdd a vertex.
Backspace DeleteRemove the last vertex.
Enter Double-clickCommit (needs at least 2 vertices).
EscWith vertices — clear the chain but stay in the tool. Empty — exit to Pan.

Snap hints, never locks

While you draw, Spatial Map watches for two things: the cursor coming close to an existing wall endpoint, or the next segment being close to horizontal / vertical relative to the active floor plan. When either match is close, the tool paints a visual hint — the chain turns green, a dashed axis ray appears, or a ring lands on the endpoint you're near.

The hint is exactly that — a hint. Your click still commits the raw cursor position. There is no modifier key to hold and nothing to fight. If the hint is close enough to satisfy you, click where you are; if you meant to draw at an angle, the wall goes exactly where you clicked.

Flat aisle vs 3D wall

An aisle can render two ways depending on the Wall height field in the 3D & Altitude section. Zero means flat; anything above zero turns the line into an extruded wall with a thickness you control.

Wall heightWhat rendersWhat appears in the panel
0A flat polyline in your chosen colour and width.Wall thickness is hidden — nothing to configure.
> 0A 3D wall with visible depth. The line is buffered into a polygon and extruded to the height you set.Wall thickness field appears (default 0.3 m).

The side-panel sections

When one aisle is selected, the side panel shows these sections.

Two transforms — Move and Rotate

Aisles have Move and Rotate, and that is it. There is no vertex-edit mode like Areas have — to reshape an aisle, delete it and redraw.

Editing many aisles at once

With the Select tool, Shift-click (or ⌘/Ctrl-click) aisles on the map, or drag a rectangle with Marquee select (Q), to build a bulk selection. The side panel switches to "N aisles selected" with sections for the bulk actions, Appearance, 3D & Altitude, and Labels. Fields where the selected aisles disagree show a "Mixed" badge.

Related — generate walls from areas automatically

If you've already drawn a set of areas, the Magic walls tool (W) converts each area you click into a wall around its outline in one pass. Each area gets its own closed-ring wall just outside its outline; adjacent areas end up with two walls along a shared edge (there is no automatic party-wall merging today). Generated walls use the current Aisle tool settings — colour, width, height, thickness — so the same panel you use here drives what Magic walls produces.

See the Magic walls tool guide for the full workflow.
