Compare indoor mapping software alternatives — fairly

Looking at indoor mapping software alternatives? Indoor mapping covers very different jobs: visitor wayfinding in a mall or an airport, blue-dot positioning on a phone, indoor GIS for a real-estate portfolio, or a live operations map for a warehouse or plant. These pages explain where Spatial Map fits next to the best-known tools, and where another product may suit you better.

How we wrote these comparisons

Each page describes the other product only by its public positioning — what its own site says it is for — and spends the rest of the space on what Spatial Map does and does not do. There are no prices for other vendors, no invented benchmarks and no customer names. Where another tool is the better fit, we say so.

Spatial Map is browser-based indoor mapping software for operations teams. You import a PDF or DWG floor plan, trace rooms, walls, doors, racks, stairs and lifts into a multi-floor 3D map, then bind every shape to live data — RFID reads, BLE tag positions, sensor readings, stock from a WMS — through tables, REST sources and a per-table write API. Reports, read-only share links and single-floor turn-by-turn wayfinding come from the same map. Pro is $60 a month or $600 a year for up to 4 facilities after a 7-day free trial, and an open-source edition (MIT) runs on your own servers.

How Spatial Map does it

Evaluate Spatial Map next to your shortlist in four steps

  1. 01

    Write down the job

Wayfinding for visitors, live operations for staff, or both? The answer decides which tool fits.

  2. 02

    Import one real floor

Start a 7-day trial (no card) and import the PDF or DWG of one floor you know well.

  3. 03

    Connect one live feed

Push a few rows from your RFID, BLE, sensor or WMS system to a table and link them to shapes.

  4. 04

    Share it and compare

Send a read-only link to the people who would use it daily and score both tools on the same building.

Comparing indoor mapping software — frequently asked questions

It depends on the job. Visitor wayfinding apps, phone-based indoor positioning, indoor GIS and live operations maps are different products. The buyer’s guide sorts the market into these categories and lists the questions to ask each vendor.

Partly. The viewer’s Navigate button gives turn-by-turn walking directions on one floor, routed around walls and through doors. Routes do not cross floors yet, and there is no native mobile app or phone positioning. Spatial Map’s focus is live operational data on the map.

So teams can self-host, inspect and change the software. The open-source edition is the same app under the MIT licence, run with Docker on your own servers.

Every page shows when it was last reviewed. Vendors change their products often, so treat competitor descriptions as a starting point and check their own sites.
