Add a floor plan to the map

Place a floor plan image, PDF sheet or DWG drawing on the map, resize, rotate and crop it, reuse earlier uploads and stack several floors by elevation.

Start with the floor plan

A floor plan is a picture of one level, pinned to real-world coordinates. Everything else (areas, racks, walls, doors, lifts, live data) is drawn on top of it, so it’s usually the first thing you add to a new facility.

Open the tool with Add floor plan in the Draw menu, or press I (or 8). The side panel switches to Place a floor plan.

Pick the file

The panel has two tabs. It opens on From library once the workspace has uploads; otherwise on Upload new.

TabWhat it does
Upload newDrop a file on "Drop a floor plan here" or click to browse. PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP upload straight away; a PDF or DWG first opens an import dialog that sets the scale. See Import a PDF or DWG floor plan.
From libraryReuse anything this workspace already uploaded, without uploading it again. Switch between This facility and Whole workspace; each tile says where it’s used ("Used here", "Used in Acme Warehouse", "Not used yet"). A search box appears once there are more than six uploads.

The chosen file shows in the panel with its pixel size, a PDF or DWG badge for imported drawings, and either "… m · to scale" (its size is fixed) or "No scale set — drag to size it." The × picks a different file.

Place it on the map

  1. 1
    Press on one corner

The map stops panning while you place, so the preview follows the mouse cleanly.

  2. 2
Drag to the opposite corner and release

A live preview of the image follows the mouse. For an image or an unscaled PDF, the box you drag is its size. For a scaled PDF or a DWG, the size is fixed by the drawing and only the position follows your drag.

  3. 3
The plan is created and selected

It is named after the file (for a PDF, after the sheet and page, such as "A1 · p2"), starts at 0° rotation, and is selected so you can align it straight away.

EscCancel a drag in progress, or leave the tool. **Stop placing** in the panel also leaves.

The floor plan’s side panel

Select a floor plan on the map or in the Floor plans list. The header shows its name, number and size (for example "Ground Floor · #58 · 363.9×197.61 ft"); click the name to rename it.

SectionWhat’s in it
ActionsMove, Rotate, Scale, Fit, Duplicate, Delete, Replace image and Edit linked data.
DimensionsWidth and Height in the display unit, Lock aspect ratio (on by default), a Scale slider (10–500 %, click the % to reset to 100 %) and a Rotation slider (−180° to +180° in 0.5° steps, click the ° to reset).
AppearanceOpacity. Lower it while aligning so you can see the map underneath.
3D & AltitudeElevation: how high the plan floats above the ground. 0 = on the ground.
CropTop / Right / Bottom / Left sliders and Reset crop (next section).
Outside the buildingHide outside walls and Margin around walls (0–5 m).
LabelsAn optional label with colour, size and Label position (Top / Right / Bottom / Left).
PositionThe Lat / Lng of the plan’s centre.

Replace image swaps the picture for another upload or a library image while keeping its position and size, so nothing drawn on top moves. Its own upload accepts PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP; a newly imported PDF or DWG sheet is in the library and can be picked from there.

Crop and hide the sheet margin

  • Crop trims each edge by a percentage of the full image (0–95 %; opposite edges together can’t exceed 95 %). It is non-destructive: the original file is kept and Reset crop brings it all back.
  • Hide outside walls "Hides the sheet margin, title block and dimensions around the outer walls of this floor." Draw the outer walls first. Margin around walls keeps a strip of the image around them.

Stack several floors

A facility can hold any number of floor plans at the same spot. Elevation separates them: Ground floor at 0, the first floor at its storey height, and so on.

  1. 1
    Add each level

Same steps for every floor: image, PDF or DWG.

  2. 2
    Set each floor’s elevation

Select it and set 3D & Altitude → Elevation, or press PgUp / PgDn to raise or lower it by 0.5 m.

  3. 3
    Name and order them

In the side panel’s Floor plans list, double-click a row (or use its pencil) to rename it, and drag rows to reorder: "Top of the list is the default in Preview and shared views." The top row is marked Default.

  4. 4
Work one floor at a time

Pin the floor you’re drawing on with the toolbar’s Default floor plan button and hide the others with the eye in the Floor plans list. Shapes on a hidden floor hide with it. See Layers, floors and map styles.
