Add doors to walls with the Door tool
Place single, double, sliding or revolving doors with the Door tool (D). Doors snap to walls, cut an opening and let indoor wayfinding routes through.
When to use the Door tool
A door is a parametric shape drawn between two anchors: the two ends of the opening. Reach for it whenever the facility has real doorways — office doors, fire exits, dock doors, revolving lobby entrances. Doors attach to your existing walls and cut a hole where they land, and they open a gap in the walkability grid that indoor routing uses.
To open the tool: open the Draw flyout on the left toolbar and pick Add door, or press D on the keyboard. The `=` key also opens it when nothing is selected (with a shape selected, `=` scales it instead). Saved doors are listed under Doors in the side panel.

Doors matter most for indoor wayfinding. A route can't pass through a wall, so a walled room only becomes reachable once its wall has a door. That means a door in the wall of each room you want routes to reach, such as an office or a stockroom off the sales floor. The Retail Mart Store demo has its doors drawn: Door 1, Door 2 and so on along its walls.
Two ways to place a door
The Door tool has two placement flows depending on whether you're near a wall. It picks the right one automatically.
| Flow | When it fires | Clicks |
|---|---|---|
| Wall snap | Cursor is close to a wall — a line with a wall height or elevation above 0. Flat aisles don't snap. The cursor changes to a "copy" icon and a preview door aligns to the wall. | One click — the door commits along the wall's axis at the current Opening width and cuts a hole in the wall. |
| Free space | Cursor is not near any wall. | Two clicks — the first places one jamb, the second places the opposite jamb and commits the door. |
Drawing a door — step by step
- 1Set the door up first (optional)
Open the tool with nothing selected; the side panel shows "Placing door" with the Placement hint and an Exit door tool button, plus Type / Dimensions / Visibility / Appearance. Pick Single / Double / Sliding / Revolving and the Opening width (default 0.9 m) before you click — the preview uses whatever you set. Opening width only applies to doors snapped to a wall; a free-space door takes the distance between your two clicks.
- 2Hover over a wall to snap
The cursor changes to a "copy" icon and the preview door snaps to the wall's axis. Click once to commit.
- 3Or click twice in free space
Away from any wall, click to place the first jamb, then click the opposite jamb — the width and heading come from the distance between the two clicks.
- 4The tool exits to Select
After the commit the tool switches to Select and the side panel opens on the new door, named Door 1, Door 2 and so on, so you can tweak it right away. Press D again for the next door.
| Esc | With the first jamb placed — cancel the chain but stay in the tool. Empty — exit to Pan. |
Four door kinds
The Type section starts with a 4-button picker. The fields below it change with the kind.
| Kind | What it is | Extra fields |
|---|---|---|
| Single | One hinged leaf attached at one jamb. | Hinge left / right · Inward / Outward · Open angle (0–180°). |
| Double | Two hinged leaves meeting at the centre. | Hinge left / right · Inward / Outward · Open angle (0–180°). |
| Sliding | A leaf that slides along the opening into a pocket. | Pocket left / right (no swing direction, no open angle). |
| Revolving | Leaves rotating around the centre of the opening. | Inward / Outward (no hinge side, no open angle). |
State — Closed, Ajar, Open
Every door has a State with three options — Closed, Ajar and Open. It sets the pose the door is drawn in (for example, a hinged leaf swung to its Open angle), so you can show the right pose in the viewer or a share link.
The side-panel sections
When one door is selected the side panel is a CAD-style editor. Click the name in the header to rename it.

Precision nudge — along the wall, not the map
Doors have a control the other tools don't: a nudge pad in the Actions section ("Move (along the wall, not the map)") that moves the door in its own local frame rather than by compass direction. The arrow keys also move a selected door in its own frame, but in bigger steps: 0.5 m per press, 5 m with Shift.
| Nudge | What it does | Step |
|---|---|---|
| ← Slide back along wall | Moves the door along its wall, backwards. | 0.25 m |
| → Slide forward along wall | Moves the door along its wall, forwards. | 0.25 m |
| ↑ Into the room | Moves the door perpendicular to the wall, into the room. | 0.25 m |
| ↓ Out of the room | Moves the door perpendicular to the wall, out of the room. | 0.25 m |
| −15° / +15° | Rotates the door around its own centre. | 15° |
| − 10% / + 10% | Scales the opening width. | 10% |
Dimensions — every slider explained
| Field | Range | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening width | 0.2–6 m | 0.9 m (free-space doors take the click distance) | Distance between the two jambs. |
| Door height | 0.5–4 m | 2.05 m (~ 6′9″) | Height of the leaf and frame. |
| Elevation | 0–20 m | 0 m | How high above the ground the door sits. Set it to your floor's altitude for upper-storey doors. |
| Frame thickness | 0.02–0.6 m | 0.15 m | Depth of the jamb perpendicular to the opening — match it to the wall you're cutting into. |
| Jamb width | 0–0.6 m | 0.1 m | Visible jamb along the opening at each end. 0 hides the jamb. |
| Leaf thickness | 0.01–0.2 m | 0.04 m (~ 1.6″) | Thickness of the door slab itself. |

| Show swing arc | Hide the arc that shows the leaf's swing path. On by default. |
| Show label | Off by default. Turn on to reveal the Label text field; left empty, the label shows the door's name. |
| Frame | Colour of the jambs. Default light grey. |
| Leaf | Colour of the door slab. Default near-white. |
| Swing arc | Colour of the swing indicator. Default slate. |
| Opacity | 0–100 %, whole door. |

| Rotate | Drag the handle around the door to rotate it. | [ ] (Shift = 15°) |
| Scale | Drag the orange dot to resize the opening width. | - + (±5% per press) |
| Fit | Fly the map to the door (zoom 20, tilted). | Button only |

Doors and wayfinding
Indoor routing builds a walkability grid from the current floor: areas are walkable, walls and other lines block, and every visible door punches a gap back through the wall at its opening — whatever its State. Without a door, a route can't pass through a wall. Routing is per floor; stairs and lifts aren't part of the route search. See Wayfinding.
Editing many doors at once
Shift-click (or ⌘/Ctrl-click) doors to build a multi-selection. The panel switches to "N doors selected" with Fit and Delete all (two-click confirm). Bulk mode keeps the panel short — the fields that describe an individual door stay per-door.
