Chainway RFID handheld integration: counts and reads on a live floor plan

Spatial Map shows the results of your Chainway handhelds and readers on a 3D map of the building. Chainway makes Android mobile computers, handheld and Bluetooth UHF RFID readers, fixed readers and rugged tablets; we build the Android app or connector for the devices you own with Chainway’s published SDK, and send the reads to Spatial Map.

Spatial Map: no credit card for the trial, runs in the browser, Pro is $60/month for up to 4 facilities. Explore the live demo

What Chainway makes

From Chainway’s own product pages. Product details and current models are on chainway.net.

  • Android mobile computers (handhelds with barcode scanning)
  • Handheld UHF RFID readers on Android, and RFID sled readers
  • Bluetooth RFID readers
  • Fixed RFID readers and RFID modules
  • Rugged tablets, including RFID tablets
  • Printers and vehicle-mounted computers

How we connect Chainway devices

Chainway publishes an SDK for its Android devices for use in Android Studio. That makes the handheld the natural place for the workflow:

  • Android RFID handhelds and sleds — a custom app on the device reads UHF tags and barcodes through the SDK and runs stock counts, receiving, put-away, picking, asset audits or tag searches, offline when it has to.
  • Bluetooth RFID readers — paired with a phone or handheld running the same app, for teams that already carry Android devices.
  • Fixed readers — tag events go to an edge service that maps antennas to zones and posts batched rows to Spatial Map.
  • Sync — the app uploads results to your WMS or ERP and to a Spatial Map table; the map and reports update from there.

What you see in Spatial Map

Counts from the handhelds colour bins, racks and zones by progress and variance; found and missing assets show in the room where the audit placed them; fixed readers appear as markers with their last read. Example screens of the handheld app are on RFID mobile app development.

Chainway device types we integrate

  • Handheld UHF RFID readers

Cycle counts, searches, audits and encoding in a custom Android app built on Chainway’s SDK.

  • Android mobile computers

Barcode workflows — receiving, put-away, picking — in the same app, synced to your systems.

  • Fixed RFID readers

Reads from dock doors and zones through an edge service into table rows.

  • Tags and labels

EPCs joined to your item master so every read lands on the right shape.

How it connects

Chainway handhelds to the map, step by step

  1. 01

    Chainway handheld

Runs a custom Android app built on Chainway’s SDK.

  2. 02

    Offline-first sync

Results are stored on the device and uploaded when online; conflicts are flagged for review.

  3. 03

    Spatial Map table

The connector posts rows to a table with the table write API: HTTPS, one bearer key per system, bulk upsert, 60 requests a minute per key — so it batches reads.

  4. 04

    Data link and map

A data link binds the table to markers, zones and racks: last read, counts, status colours and the History player for movement.

  5. 05

    Reports and sharing

Built-in reports and the report builder use the same rows; read-only share links give a site manager or client the live view.

Chainway integration — frequently asked questions

No. Spatial Map is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chainway, and this is not an official Chainway integration. We build on the SDK Chainway publishes for its Android devices, for clients who already own them.

The apps we build are offline-first: counts and audits are stored on the handheld and uploaded when the device is back online, so a cold store or a basement does not stop the count.

Often, yes: the workflow and sync are shared and only the reader layer is device-specific. Mixed fleets are scoped per project.

No. Spatial Map is a web app. The handheld apps on these pages are custom software built per client, which sends its results to Spatial Map and to your own systems.
