Zebra RFID integration: readers, mobile computers and printers on a live indoor map

Spatial Map shows what your Zebra devices see on a 3D floor plan of the building. Zebra makes mobile computers, barcode scanners, RFID readers and printers; we connect the ones you already own with the developer tools Zebra publishes, and post their reads to Spatial Map — no new hardware, no change to how the devices are managed.

Spatial Map: no credit card for the trial, runs in the browser, Pro is $60/month for up to 4 facilities. Explore the live demo

What Zebra makes

From Zebra’s own product pages, the categories that matter for indoor tracking and inventory. Product details and current models are on zebra.com.

  • Handheld mobile computers and rugged tablets
  • Handheld RFID readers
  • Fixed RFID readers, RFID antennas and integrated RFID portals
  • Handheld and fixed-mount barcode scanners
  • Desktop, mobile and industrial label printers, including RFID printing
  • Labels, RFID labels and tags

How we connect Zebra devices

Zebra publishes developer software for its mobile computers, scanners, RFID readers and printers. Which piece we use depends on the device:

  • Handheld RFID and mobile computers — a custom Android app built on Zebra’s developer tools reads tags and barcodes, runs your count, receiving or audit workflow, and syncs results to your systems and to a Spatial Map table.
  • Fixed readers, antennas and portals — tag events from the reader’s network interface go to a small edge service (or your existing middleware), which maps antennas to doors and zones and posts batched rows.
  • Label and RFID printers — labels are generated from your item data in Zebra’s printer language (ZPL); for RFID media the same job encodes the tag, and the connector records which EPC went on which item.
  • Your WMS or ERP — stays the system of record; the connector reads expected stock from it and writes counts and receipts back.

What you see in Spatial Map

Every Zebra reader, antenna group and portal becomes a marker or zone on the plan with its last read and read count; tagged items sit at the reader or zone that last saw them; counts from the handhelds colour racks and zones by progress and variance. The same rows feed reports and read-only share links — see RFID asset tracking software and the Retail Mart demo.

Zebra device types we integrate

Illustrations of device types, not Zebra product photos.

  • Handheld RFID readers

Custom Android apps for counts, searches, audits and encoding, built on Zebra’s SDK.

  • Fixed readers and antennas

Network tag events → edge service → table rows, one row per tag, place and time.

  • Integrated RFID portals

Dock-door and exit reads shown as door events on the floor plan.

  • Mobile computers and scanners

Barcode-based receiving, put-away and picking apps that sync to your WMS and the map.

  • RFID printers

Print-and-encode jobs from your item data, with the EPC recorded for each label.

  • RFID labels and tags

The EPC joins the read, your item master and the shape on the map.

How it connects

Zebra devices to the map, step by step

  1. 01

    Zebra device

Configured and managed with Zebra’s own tools, as today.

  2. 02

    App or edge service

Our Android app (handhelds) or edge service (fixed readers, portals) collects the reads.

  3. 03

    Spatial Map table

The connector posts rows to a table with the table write API: HTTPS, one bearer key per system, bulk upsert, 60 requests a minute per key — so it batches reads.

  4. 04

    Data link and map

A data link binds the table to markers, zones and racks: last read, counts, status colours and the History player for movement.

  5. 05

    Reports and sharing

Built-in reports and the report builder use the same rows; read-only share links give a site manager or client the live view.

What a Zebra integration project delivers

Handheld app

Stock count, receiving, audit or encoding workflows on your Zebra handhelds — see RFID mobile app development.

Reader connector

An edge service for fixed readers and portals, with antenna-to-zone mapping and duplicate filtering.

Live map and reports

Readers, portals and tagged items on the 3D floor plan, with reports and share links.

Zebra integration — frequently asked questions

No. Spatial Map is not affiliated with or endorsed by Zebra Technologies, and this is not an official Zebra integration. We integrate Zebra devices that our clients own, using the developer tools Zebra publishes.

Only if you want the counts or audits to run on them. If your existing app or middleware can post JSON, it can write to a Spatial Map table directly; otherwise we build an Android app for the workflow as part of a project.

Yes, as part of a custom project: the label and encode job is generated from your item data, and the EPC written to each label is stored so its reads can be traced on the map.

We work from the device’s documentation rather than a fixed list. Send us the models you run and we will confirm the route — handheld app, reader connector or print workflow.
